Starry, Starry Night

Governor Chris Sununu visited Lydia’s House of Hope in Somersworth, NH this past summer, learning about the 365-day transitional housing program for homeless women and children. He also discovered that he and Executive Director, Theresa Tozier, shared a Lebanese heritage. After some lighthearted conversation about their background, the Governor challenged Theresa to a Lebanese Cook-Off.
Preparations began…the date was set, guests were invited and the ingredients were purchased for what would be an amazing night of food, fun and fellowship. And while judges Amer and Michelle Fakhoury of Little Lebanon Quick to Go in Dover chose the Governor’s stuffed grape leaves as the best, the event was about much more than Lebanese food.
Theresa shared the journey that led to the opening of Lydia’s House of Hope, 16 years of helping those in need. She also took a moment to express her gratitude to the community and thank those individuals and businesses who have impacted the home and the residents living at Lydia’s House of Hope.
Special awards were given to Mary and Bill Schleyer (Planting a Seed), Luis and Mona Valdez (Changing Generations), Dale Sprague (Champion), David Tozier (Staying Grounded) and Peter and Maria Labrie (Driving Us Forward). However, Theresa pointed out that the true stars were the residents of Lydia’s House of Hope. Each woman was presented a star medallion by the Governor who commended them on their journey in the program.

Thank you to all who contributed to this wonderful evening in some way. Stay tuned for the next event to benefit Lydia’s House of Hope.

A Few Good People

The Armed Forces – they sacrifice their lives to protect Americas freedom abroad and at home. This week, we were blessed to have some of them give of their time and talents here at Lydia’s House of Hope!

The volunteer workers helped with outdoor clean-up projects, interior and exterior painting and assisted us in moving furniture to accommodate new families moving into the home.

The residents at Lydia’s House of Hope prepared a delicious lunch for our workers (with the help of UNH Cooperative Extension) and we enjoyed time of fellowship together.

Thank you to these generous individuals for caring and sharing their gifts with us. Hope changes lives.

Babies Born Into Extreme Poverty

Do you know how many babies are born into extreme poverty every day?

1,392 babies…creating an unacceptable child homelessness and hunger in the United States. Seeds of Faith in Somersworth, NH knows this is real because we see and hear it every day at our office.

That is why we are working hard to open our transitional housing program, Lydia’s House of Hope, a 365 day faith based program for homeless families and single women, focusing on the children. Breaking the generational cycle of homelessness at this level will reap compounding benefits not only for them individually but also for the greater community.

It takes a village to raise a child and it will take a community to help break the cycle of generational homelessness. To join the community and support our efforts please donate today!

Holidays Are a Time for Family, Food & Generosity!

Every year Seeds of Faith’s Food Pantry provides Thanksgiving food boxes to families to ensure they have all the fixings for their Thanksgiving dinner.

Though we are unable to provide delivery services, this year there was an exceptions. A man called into our office asking if we could help his friends with food. A disabled Veteran and his wife that just lost her job were too proud to ask for help.

Today one of our Veteran volunteers was able to bring a box full of hearty food including fresh produce, a turkey, rolls, stuffing… and even a handmade scarf made with love from one of our wonderful volunteers.

Without the support of the community we wouldn’t be able to help as many people as we do all year long. You can help support our Seeds of Faith Food Pantry by dropping off your donations Monday’s 9:00AM – 12:00PM or let us do the shopping for you and send your monetary donation to: Seeds of Faith 36 Canal Street, Suite 261 Somersworth, NH 03878.

Happy & Blessed Thanksgiving!
